The History of Steel Center Supply
In 1933 Louis and Goldie Warshawsky and their three sons Abe, Martin, and Meyer moved to South Haven from Chicago, Illinois.Louis started L. Warshawsky & Co., a salvage business. His sons Abe and Martin joined the business in 1935 and 1937, respectively. With the assistance of his sons, Louis was able to expand his market. The war took its toll on the Warshawsky family as Louis saw his sons Abe and Martin leave the business because they were drafted into the army. Meyer joined the Marines.
Louis became ill and the business was dissolved in 1945. In 1949 Abe Warshawsky rebuilt L. Warshawsky & Co., this time as an auto salvage company and scrap yard.
Over the years the business evolved to include the sale of new steel products. With this change Steel Center Supply was formed becoming a major division of L. Warshawsky & Co.
Steel Center Supply stocks new steel products and mill supply items such as: pipes, pipe fittings, bolts, nuts, plumbing supplies, drills and numerous other industrial products. Steel Center Supply also recycles scrap metal. The present owner of Steel Center Supply is Joe, the son of the late Abe Warshawsky. The business has been in existence for over 75 years with a short period of inactivity from 1945-1949.
